This Week's Football Birthdays: April 25th - May 1st
A number of big football stars celebrate their birthday this week. But who's celebrating and how old will they be?
This post shows you which top footballers have their birthday in the next 7 days.
Raphael Varane (29)
France's highly decorated centre back Raphael Varane turns 29 this Monday. Which is quite remarkable when you consider he's already won 4 Champions Leagues with Real Madrid and a World Cup.
Varane will find it harder to win trophies at his new club Man United. But as they say, form is temporary and class is permanent. Can Raphael help his country defend the World Cup in Qatar? They certainly have a fighting chance.
Dejan Kuluveski (22)
One the first things Antonio Conte did as Spurs manager was moan about the quality of players they'd recruited under Jose Mourinho.
The next thing he did was arrange loan moves for the Juventus pair Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kuluveski - a move that has turned out to be a masterstroke.
The versatile Kuluveski has been particularly impressive with 2 goals and 5 assists in just 10 games. Which makes Spur's £25 million option to buy him in the summer look like a snip.
Kuluveski is just 22 on Monday and could be back in the Champions League with his new club very soon.
Anthony Elanga (20)
The emergence of Anthony Elanga has been a rare bright spot for Manchester United fans this season. As the Swedish youngster has really grabbed his chance to play under Ralf Rangnick.
The goal-scoring winger has netted 3 times in his debut season, including a big goal away at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
There should be a lot more where that came from. After all, Elanga turns just 20 on Wednesday and will still be adapting to life as a first team player.
Cristian Romero (24)
A few eyebrows were raised at the £54 million pound fee that took Cristian Romero to Spurs last summer. But after a fantastic season at Atalanta in 2020/21, many see Romero as one of the world's best young defenders.
Unfortunately he's had bad luck with injuries at the the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium so far. But he's definitely shown all the ingredients of a top-class Premier League centre half. Romero turns 24 on Wednesday and will be hoping play a key role in Tottenham's chase for the top 4.
Diego Simeone (52)
Love him or hate him, you can't help but admire Diego Simeone.
Taking Atletico Madrid from obscurity to a firm member of Europe's elite is one thing. But staying at the same club for almost a decade is quite another.
Simeone knows how to win and how to build a winning team. He's done it through multiple different generations of players at Atleti. And to be honest, we'd love to see him win the Champions League trophy he craves so much.
Diego "Cholo" Simeone turns 52 on Thursday. If you haven't seem his documentary on Amazon Prime, give it a watch!
Marc Andre Ter Stegen (30)
Along with Ederson, Marc Ter Stegen must be one of the best ever keepers not to be their country's number 1. But unfortunately for Marc, Manuel Neuer doesn't seem to be going anywhere!
Ter Stegen has made the Barcelona number one jersey his own since joining in 2014. With a Champions League and four La Liga titles to show for it.
Neuer's longevity might force Ter Stegen to wait even longer to add to that haul with his country. But he's more than ready to step into those shoes - as his five star performance in the 2017 Confederations Cup final showed.
Ter Stegen is 30 on Saturday and will be itching to give Hansi Flick a selection headache before Qatar 2022.
Leonardo Bonucci (35)
Speaking of World Cups, it seems a real shame we won't see Leonardo Bonucci play in another one.
The Juventus centre-back joins a host of Italian stars who will miss out on the tournament after failing in the play-offs. And at 35 years old on Sunday, it was probably his last chance to play on the biggest stage.
Despite that, Bonucci will be remembered as one of the finest defenders of his generation. After more than a decade of serene performances in Serie A and an unforgettable victory at Euro 2020. Happy birthday Leonardo!
